The Executive Director of Ambulatory Strategy and Business
Development will support the Chief Ambulatory Officer in the
strategy and growth of the ambulatory division, payor division, and
employer solutions. This role will partner with key team members to
define and analyze growth opportunities, necessary analyses,
provider manpower planning, provider alignment strategy, and
practice acquisition planning. This role will also lead a team of
Physician Liaisons to enhance growth throughout the system and
network.
Responsibilities
Strategy and Business Development
- Participates in preparatory exercises necessary for strategic
planning
- Prepares necessary system ambulatory and market level analysis
to support planning process
- Leads the ambulatory division components of the short- and
long-range strategic plan for UnityPoint Health
- Partners with VP of Strategy and Business Development and VP of
Transformation Office to support annual planning in any requested
capacity
- Partners with Chief Ambulatory Officer (CAO) on ambulatory,
home based care, non-acute care, provider alignment, and provider
acquisition strategies
- Builds and maintains a system wide view of provider manpower
planning
- Partners with system CAO on growth and business development
initiatives across markets and for the ambulatory division
holistically
- Partners with Executive Director of Market Strategy and
Business Development to ensure growth and business development
plans are systemically sound and not siloed
- Lead key team members to proactively identify and build
business cases for new or expanded growth opportunities in
collaboration with CAO
- In collaboration with CAO, Executive Director of Market
Strategy and Business Development, Executive Director of Service
Line Strategy, and other relevant leaders, proactively identify
opportunities for cross-regional collaboration to drive efficiency,
growth, and long-term sustainability
- Partner with Executive Director of Market Strategy and Business
Development as well as the VP of Transformation Office to maintain
clear, consistent, concise, and expedited processes for vetting of
ideas and next steps for implementation
- Build and maintain process for market scanning, research, and
investment recommendations
- Regularly monitor annual plan performance metrics to support
CAO
Regulatory, Industry, and Organizational Monitoring
- Maintain expert level knowledge of changing trends within the
healthcare industry, specifically the ambulatory environment
- Maintain knowledge of legislation, payor shifts, and consumer
behavior changes and how they impact the ambulatory division
- Continuously monitor best practices and strategic moves made by
disruptors or other reputable healthcare organizations
- Lead team that conducts ongoing research in clinical, business,
and regulatory trends and environments that impact or influence the
ambulatory division and/or UnityPoint Health.
- Lead team to assist in the development and presentation of
Certificate of Need materials to support or oppose new or expanding
services within our markets.
Talent Management
- Build and grow a team of Physician Liaisons to drive desired
outcomes and build solid relationships
- Ensure support structure is positioned to deliver effectively
and prevent siloing between market and ambulatory team
- Responsible for recruitment of top talent and meet program
needs with a customer focused mentality.
- Ensures all team members are oriented and properly
trained.
- Implements effective performance management and staff
development processes.
- Establishes effective mechanisms of communication with staff
and key stakeholders to foster an environment of openness, trust
and teamwork.
- Assists in the annual budget process.
- Analyzes and requests staff expenditures within budget
parameters
- Provide leadership and direction that ensures top of licensure
duties for all team members
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of

guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with
regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications
required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and
other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements
within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance
requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g.
Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any
questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate
attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate
action on concerns reported by department staff related to
compliance.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

position.
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business or related
discipline required.
Master's in healthcare administration, Master's in business
administration, or other healthcare related degree.
Minimum 3 Years' Experience In Healthcare
8+ years' experience in healthcare preferred; 2+ years' experience
in leading hospital strategy.
